This was the highest honor the Norse world could offer: to die well and keep going. Bergamot opens sharp and bright before giving way to labdanum, leather, and tobacco, the smoke and weight of a hall that has been burning for a very long time.

How to best care for your candle

• Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn.
• Keep the candle away from drafts, flammable materials, and children or pets.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended and never burn it for more than 4 hours at a time.
• Always place candles on a heat-resistant surface.
• Extinguish the candle completely before leaving the room.
• Stop burning when there's about 1/2 inch of wax left.
